WHEN: 11:00am Wednesday, November 18, 2020
WHERE: Serra Subaru Building – 1747 S Garfield Ave, Traverse City, MI 49686
On Wednesday November 18, 2020 at 11:00am, outside in front of the Serra Subaru of Traverse City dealership, Serra will present Goodwill Northern Michigan with boxes of blankets, to be distributed to residents of the Goodwill Inn Emergency Homeless Shelter. 80 blankets in total bearing the Subaru emblem will be donated, as part of the “Subaru Loves to Care” campaign.
This local event is part of larger national initiative. For the third consecutive year, Subaru of America, Inc. and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) will spread love, hope and warmth to those in need, particularly cancer patients and their families in communities across the country. Over the past two years, Subaru Loves to Care, the health-focused initiative of the Subaru Love Promise philanthropic platform, has allowed LLS and Subaru to deliver blankets to 70,000 patients in more than 400 hospitals through 475 Subaru retailers. Past blanket donations were made to the Cowell Family Cancer Center at Munson Medical Center, but this year, Serra is pleased the blankets will be put to good use at Goodwill Inn Emergency Homeless Shelter, helping keep our area’s homeless warmer this winter and making the holidays a bit brighter for the less fortunate in our community.
Goodwill Northern Michigan works to help people experiencing homelessness find home through its Street Outreach, Goodwill Inn, Patriot Place, and supportive housing programs. Goodwill meets people where they are when they are living unsheltered. They offer year-round emergency shelter at the Goodwill Inn, and at Patriot Place transitional housing community for Veterans. They provide supportive housing to increase access to affordable, stable housing, and they work with a community of partners to make homelessness in Northern Michigan rare, brief, and one-time. Goodwill Northern Michigan is a local nonprofit, governed by a local board of directors, working to reduce food insecurity and end homelessness in Northern Michigan. An independent member organization of Goodwill Industries International, a network of 156 community-based organizations in the US, Canada and 12 other countries, their mission programs bring nutritious food to people experiencing food insecurity, and help people experiencing homelessness find home. Store revenues and generous donors make it possible for Goodwill Northern Michigan to meet the basic needs for some of our most vulnerable neighbors. Programs include the Goodwill Inn, Patriot Place, Street Outreach, Food Rescue and Good Meals.
Serra Executive Managers Jerry Zezulka and Jim Tuohy, General Sales Manager Mike McFarlan, Sales Manager Eric Steinhebel and Sales Manager Tony Jerome will be on hand to present the blankets to Dan Buron, Goodwill Northern Michigan Executive Director and Deb Lake, Goodwill Northern Michigan Director of Communications.
