What is Premium Gasoline?

Premium gas and regular have some similar attributes. They both are made from crude oil and are combustible, but the main difference between premium and regular gasoline is the octane level. The octane level is how well it combats inappropriate fuel combustion. Most premium gasoline has an octane level of 90 or above, which helps keep your new Toyota engine cleaner and reduces pollution.

What is Regular Unleaded Gasoline?

Regular unleaded gasoline is the most common type of gasoline around Bellaire and beyond. It’s better for your health and the environment than leaded gasoline. Its octane rating is 87.

Choosing Regular Gas or Premium

While the decision to choose regular gas or premium may seem insubstantial, there are a few things to consider for your Kalkaska drives:

  • Price: Premium gas can cost as much as 20 to 40 cents more per gallon than regular gas, which adds up, especially if you have a long commute past Lake City.
  • Octane Rating: The higher the octane level, the less chance of engine knocking or “pre-ignition,” which can damage your new Volvo. This occurrence is less common with premium gasoline.
  • Engine Suitability: Regular gas burns faster than premium gas, making it better for engines with low compression ratios. Engines with high compression ratios benefit from premium gasoline.
  • If your auto manufacturer doesn’t recommend premium gas for your vehicle, using it won’t boost performance or longevity.
  • If your new Cadillac requires premium gas, regular gas will likely not harm it, but if you hear knocking when you use regular gas, it is best to start using premium gas instead.
  • Vehicles with turbochargers generally benefit from premium gasoline.
